When Daniel (Danny) Fenton, a 14-year-old freshman at Casper High School, ventured inside a ghost portal that his parents created (egged on by his best friend Sam Manson), he gained power over a very rare set of ghost abilities. At first he starts out with the power to transform into a ghost at will, the power to fly, Invisibility (becoming completely invisible yet unable to go through anything) and Intangibility (still slightly visible but he can walk through any solid object).
Later on he gains a power known as a 'Ghost Ray' while fighting the ghost Genie Desiree (pronounced, Des-er-ay); this manifests from his hands and eyes in a green glowing laser type power.
Then he gains an ability known as his 'Ghostly Wail,' a VERY powerful 'soundwave' type power. He discovers this power 10 years in the future while trying to fight his evil older incarnation Dark Danny, or Dan as people have come to call him. This power manifests itself as a sonic pulse, sounding a lot like the noise a child may make in order to sound like a 'ghost'.
Then later on he receives a power over ice, which manifests from his very core. A friendly Yeti-like ghost known as Frostbite explains this to Danny, then trains him in its ways in order to defeat a powerful plant-like ghost known as Undergrowth.
His 'Super Hero' alias is known as Danny Phantom, although from the beginning the towns folk of Amity Park mistakenly called him 'Inviso-Bill' until he yelled out his actual name during an attack on Amity Park which was brought forward by the Ghost king Pariah Dark.
Danny Phantom starts his job of protecting his home town known as Amity Park when a ghost named the 'Lunch Lady' attacks Casper high because of a Vegetarian lunch menu change, fought for by Samantha Manson, Danny's second best friend.
From the beginning Danny Phantom fought for good, never asking for anything in return for his heroic deeds, yet, others believed he was the same as most other Ghosts, 'evil'.
Danny's human half retains the looks of:
- Raven black hair
- Lightly tanned egg-shell type skin colouration
- Bright ice blue eyes
- A rather un-muscular physique
His ghost half, however, is almost the complete opposite:
- Pure snow white hair
- Emerald green eyes
- Slightly tanned skin (a bit darker than human form)
- Somewhat muscular but still not a lot
Danny has 2 main friends in the show:
Tucker Foley: a technological wizz kid. In the show he is seen as a nerd with plenty of technology at his aid whenever he needs it, although he is always seen with a small hand-held PDA that he calls his 'Baby'.
Samantha (Sam) Manson: a rather unique Ultra-Recyclo Vegetarian (does not eat anything with a face) Goth. Sam gains a rather large crush on Danny throughout the show, which is later reciprocated by Danny toward the end of the series.
